Comedian Preacher Lawson to Bring High-Energy Humor to Heritage Center

DUBUQUE, Iowa - Comedian and America's Got Talent finalist Preacher Lawson will bring the laughs when he performs at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2025, in John and Alice Butler Hall, Heritage Center. The comedic act is part of the 13th annual Live at Heritage Center Performing Arts Series.

- UD affiliates receive a $5 discount. UD students may attend all Heritage Center events for free. Additionally, $10 non-UD student rush tickets will be available at the Farber Box Office one hour before Live at Heritage Center and special event performances. High school or university ID required.

Lawson is best known for his appearance on season 12 of NBC's hit series America's Got Talent in 2017, where he made it to the final round. Based off his stellar performance, Lawson was invited to compete on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2019 and Britain's Got Talent: The Champions in 2019, where he advanced to the finale after receiving the most fan votes. Recently, he participated in America's Got Talent: Fantasy League in 2024.

In television, Lawson can be seen on HBO's A Black Lady Sketch Show and NBC's Connecting as a series regular. His first stand-up special, Get to Know Me, premiered on BET+ in 2019, while his second stand-up special, My Name is Preacher, was released globally on YouTube in 2024. Lawson also hosted the Facebook Watch series World's Most Amazing Dog in 2019 with George Lopez and Lisa Vanderpump. He has appeared multiple times on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Lawson was born in Portland, Oregon, but spent most of his adolescence in Memphis, Tennessee. He moved 20 times before the age of 10, but if you asked him what city he's from, he'd say Orlando, Florida, because that's where he grew as a comedian.

Lawson has 3.5 million followers on TikTok. His YouTube channel, which features clips of stand-up, MMA training, and vegan cooking tips, has amassed over 600,000 subscribers. Lawson recently completed his residency hosting AGT Live in Las Vegas and continues to perform at sold-out venues around the country.
