SACRAMENTO, CA - Today, Assemblymember Connolly (D-San Rafael) issued his support for the Election Rigging Response Act, which will provide California voters the opportunity to approve new Congressional maps in an effort to counterbalance President Donald Trump's unprecedented rigging of Texas' congressional maps to give Republicans more seats in the House of Representatives.

"We have a moral responsibility to fight like hell to protect our democracy and the values that Californians hold dear," said Assemblymember Damon Connolly. "I am proud to stand with Governor Newsom, Congressional leaders, and my Legislative colleagues to push back on Donald Trump and his attempt to rig Texas' electoral maps. Trump's motives are transparent: he doesn't want Congress to hold him accountable for his abuses of power and devastating policies that hurt working families. Unlike Texas, we are putting this choice in the voter's hands - Californians will always have the final say."

On Monday, the State Legislature will introduce several bills that create the constitutional amendment that, if passed, will officially put the Election Rigging Response Act on the ballot for a special election held on November 4, 2025.

The Election Rigging Response Act was announced by Governor Gavin Newsom, grassroots advocates, state leaders, and members of Congress at a press conference held in the City of Los Angeles.
