Tarleton State Tennis begins four-match road swing at SFA, McNeese

STEPHENVILLE, Texas - Tarleton State Tennis will start a four-match road swing this week, starting at SFA at 11 a.m. on Monday. The Texans will then travel to McNeese for a 1 p.m. matinee on Tuesday.

The Texans are riding a five-match winning streak and are off to a 9-3 start in 2025. Tarleton State goes on the road for the first time since Feb. 28, winning its last away match 6-1 at Oral Roberts. The Texans have won their last two road contests by a combined score of 12-2.

Singles play has been the shining star for the Texans in 2025, with Tarleton State holding a combined 47-19 record in singles matches this season. Freshman co-leads the team in singles wins with nine in her first season as a Texan. Castano became the first Tarleton State freshman in the Division I Era to win in each of her first five singles matches. The Dominican Republic native also became the first Texan in program history to defeat an opponent from a Power 4 conference in a singles match, defeating Houston's Sophie Schouten on Feb. 2.

Junior has also collected nine singles wins and is riding a six-match winning streak for the Texans. Mukhutdinova's singles win on Court 6 clinched the last match for the Texans on March 9 against Louisiana Tech. The Boca Raton, Florida, native has also collected five bagels (6-0 sets) this season.

Doubles play has been just as dominant for the Texans in 2025, winning 25 of their 30 doubles matches this season. Senior and lead the Texans in doubles with a 9-2 record at the No. 1 singles spot. Burger/Persson have been named the WAC Doubles Team of the Week four times this season, winning the weekly honor three straight times from Feb. 18-March 4.

The Texans will face former WAC rival SFA on Monday at the Schlief Tennis Complex in Nacogdoches, Texas. Tarleton State has won the previous two matchups against SFA, only giving up one match point during that stretch. SFA is off to an 8-4 start and is on a four-match winning streak.

Tarleton State will face former Texan assistant coach Sonia Carlson, now serving as the head coach of McNeese. Carlson has developed a winning culture to McNeese in her first season, having the Cowgirls off to a 13-3 start. McNeese has four players who have collected 10 singles wins this season, led by Salome Fluri with a 13-2 record.

Both matches will be available to watch on WAC International. Live scoring will also be available through iOnCourt.
