Grand Boulevard’s St. Paul C.M.E. Church Designated as Chicago Landmark
Grand Boulevard's St. Paul Christian Methodist Episcopal Church was officially designated as a Chicago landmark today by City Council.
The Tudor Revival church building at 4644 S. Dearborn St. was constructed in two phases and completed in 1925. It is the first and only dedicated house of worship for St. Paul C.M.E., which was established in 1907 and is the oldest Christian Methodist Episcopal congregation in Chicago.
The design by the firm Ecklund, Fugard and Knapp reflects the architectural traditions of the Methodist faith and was inspired by the former headquarters of the C.M.E. church in Jackson, Tennessee.
The landmark designation protects all exterior elevations of the church building.
