WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) released the following statement after the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act passed 89-10 in the U.S. Senate:
"Everywhere I go in Connecticut, families tell me they're struggling to afford the place they call home. It's tougher than ever to buy or rent a home, especially as Trump's health care cuts, tariffs, and gas price spikes from his disastrous war with Iran stretch Americans' budgets to the breaking point. This bill takes a meaningful step in tackling the affordability crisis by making it cheaper, easier, and faster to build new homes nationwide, while working with state and local governments to repair existing houses and bring down prices. There is still much more we can and must do to make housing affordable and I'll continue my work in the Senate to make that foundational promise of the American dream accessible to working and middle-class families."
