Absentee Ballots Are in the Mail

For Immediate Release
March 10, 2026

The City of Madison Clerk's Office has begun mailing absentee ballots for the April 7, 2026 election. If you plan to vote by mail, you can request your ballot on the My Vote Wisconsin website.

How to request a ballot

Visit the My Vote Wisconsin website and enter your name and date of birth to confirm your registration and check if you've already requested an absentee ballot. If not, select "start here to request an absentee ballot" and follow the prompts. If the Clerk's Office does not have your voter ID on file, the site will ask you to upload one.

Track your ballot

Return to the My Vote Wisconsin website in the coming days to see when your ballot was mailed and where it is in transit.

Completing your absentee ballot

When your ballot arrives, vote in the presence of an adult witness. Place the ballot in the return envelope, sign it and have your witness sign and provide their name and address.

Returning your ballot

You may mail your ballot or use a secure drop box located near most Madison fire stations. If mailing, allow at least one week for delivery. Voters with disabilities may have assistance returning their ballot from anyone except their employer, their union representative, or a candidate on the ballot.

After returning your absentee, check the My Vote Wisconsin website to confirm it has been received.

The City of Madison Clerk's Office sends all absentee ballots to the polls to be counted on Election Day.
