Copper Mountain, Colo. - Ashleigh Alexander led the University of Alaska Anchorage ski team with a 10th place finish in the giant slalom at the DU Invite Wednesday. Alexander finished in a time of 1:38:20.
Carmen Nielssen was 18th (1:40.03), and Olivia Carrier was 25th (1:43.53).
Carlo Cardone led the men finishing tied for 18th (1:36.63).
Jan Ronner finished 21st (1:36.72), Dylan Timm 34th (1:39.13), Caeden Carruthers 36th (1:39.36) and Hunter Eid 38th (1:41.36).
"Total team effort this week," said head coach Sparky Anderson. "To be hanging with the big conference teams and beat some very talented programs to start the year is encouraging. We still have a lot of work to do, but the group is fired up. Great to see Ash back in the top-10 and a good first GS outing for Carlo. Race surface conditions were less than ideal, but it's an outdoor sport and every day presents new challenges. It's our approach to the variable race environments that I liked this week. Our kids are tough, and we'll keep battling to find ways to climb the ladder."
The Seawolves are currently fourth in the team standings with 210 points.
Colorado swept the individual titles with Louison Accambray winning the women's race (1:36.13), and Louis Fausa winning the men's (1:34.72).
UAA will compete in the freestyle sprints on Jan. 17.
