FEMA Announces More Than $22 Million for Florida Disaster Recovery

LAKE MARY, Fla. - FEMA announced more than $22 million in funding for 28 recovery and mitigation projects to help Florida communities recover from hurricanes and other disasters.

The funding is part of more than $348 million that FEMA announced for almost 170 projects nationwide.

FEMA is awarding nearly $19 million for 21 Public Assistance projects to reimburse Florida for the costs of repairs to recreational facilities, public buildings and debris removal. Notable projects include:

• $8.1 million to city of Mexico Beach for repairs to the Municipal Fishing Pier, including decking, pilings, walkways and other pier facilities.
• $2.8 million to the state of Florida for recovery work including emergency protective measures addressing flooding and extensive power outages following Hurricane Idalia.
• $1.1 million to the city of Daytona Beach to repair the Ocean Walk seawall and boardwalk, Main Street Pier and Sickler Park after storm surge, flooding and hurricane force winds damaged the facilities following Hurricane Nicole.
• Nearly $1 million to healthcare facilities across north, northwest and west Central Florida, including facility repairs, administrative support and emergency measures to protect patients, staff and public health during disasters.

FEMA is also awarding more than $3 million through FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Grant Program for projects in Florida that will prevent, eliminate or reduce future disaster-related damage. Notable projects include:

• $2.2 million to Florida for cost-effective residential mitigation projects statewide, including elevating homes, property acquisitions, demolitions and reconstruction of eligible homes.
• $1 million for the city of North Port to improve wind protection and provide upgraded building openings and roof improvements.

These projects are the latest examples of billions of dollars in disaster recovery provided by FEMA to support state and local communities as they work to rebuild from recent natural disasters.
