Sens. Ossoff, Rev. Warnock Delivering Resources to Strengthen Campus Safety at Spelman College

Atlanta, Ga. - U.S. Senators Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff are delivering resources to strengthen campus safety at Spelman College.

Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock are delivering Federal funding to help Spelman College upgrade emergency notification software and increase security on campus.

Following a surge of targeted threats to Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Spelman College plans to use these new resources to improve both physical and technological infrastructure across campus, including the addition of motion-detecting cameras, distributing emergency response guides, and the hiring of an Emergency Response Coordinator.

Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock are delivering $437,000 for the project through bipartisan government funding legislation that became law on January 23.

"The fact that Democrats and Republicans in Congress united behind this proposal to support Spelman College speaks volumes to the respect and the honor with which Spelman is revered, not just here in Georgia, but across the country. Senator Reverend Warnock and I secured the resources to help ensure students are safe on campus," Sen. Ossoff said.

"Spelman College is one of the best incubators of Black education and excellence in the country. We need to make sure that students and staff feel safe while on campus, which is why these federal funds secured by Senator Ossoff and me are so important," said Senator Warnock.

"We are grateful to Senator Jon Ossoff and Senator Raphael Warnock for their continued support of Spelman College," said Spelman College Interim President and Board Chair Emerita Rosalind "Roz" Brewer. "Their leadership will enable critical public safety enhancements across our campus and represents a significant step forward in our commitment to creating a safer, more secure environment for our entire community. This investment will allow the College to implement state-of-the-art security technologies and strengthen key elements of our campus safety infrastructure. These improvements will have a meaningful and lasting impact, helping to ensure that every Spelman student can learn and thrive in a safe educational environment. We appreciate the Senators' partnership and commitment to supporting the safety and well-being of the Spelman community for years to come."
