SCAM ALERT
Lewiston residents and business owners have reported receiving fake emails that look like they're from the City of Lewiston's Planning & Zoning Commission. These emails ask for payment to "finalize" a permit and may include a fake invoice.
Official City emails only come from @cityoflewiston.org email addresses.
The City will never request payment by email or ask for a wire transfer unless it has been pre-arranged with the customer.
Review these redacted scam emails and invoices to help recognize potential scams.
If you receive one of these messages:
- Do not click links or reply to the email.
- Do not send money or share personal information with the sender.
- Verify first by contacting City departments directly via contact information that can be found here on the City's official website.
If you believe you're a victim of this scam:
- Contact your bank or credit card company immediately.
- File a report with the Lewiston Police Department.
- Once you have a police report number, file a complaint at https://www.ic3.gov/.
- You can also mark the email as spam or junk, so similar emails are filtered automatically in the future.
