USDA Invests $2.6 Million in Water Infrastructure Project in Minburn, Iowa

(Minburn, Iowa, September 25, 2026) - U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Under Secretary for Rural Development Glen R. Smith today announced that the agency is investing $2.6 million in a water project for the city of Minburn. He made the funding announcement at the Minburn Public Library and was joined by U.S. Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03), USDA Rural Development Iowa State Director Mike Sexton, and local city and county leaders to celebrate the news.

"At USDA, we want to empower rural communities, create economic opportunities, and preserve our rural ways of life," said Under SecretarySmith. "Today's investment in the city of Minburn demonstrates the Administration's clear vision to continue driving strategic infrastructure investments in Iowa and rural communities across the country. As a result, our nation becomes stronger and our people prosper."

"Whether it's replacing 70-year-old water lines in Minburn or protecting the rivers and reservoirs our families depend on, every Iowan should be able to trust the water coming out of their tap," said Rep. Nunn. "We secured a $2 million federal investment to fix a problem Minburn families have dealt with for decades, and we're taking that same commonsense approach across Iowa. That means bringing our tax dollars home while giving Iowans the resources and flexibility to lead the solutions. That's why we secured real-time flood and drought monitoring for every county we serve and fought to protect Iowa's water supply from Saylorville to Rathbun Lake."

The city of Minburn received a USDA Rural Development grant for$2 million and a loan for $600,000 through the agency's Water and Waste Disposal program to help the city improve its water system. This project will construct a new meter vault with a pressure regulating valve, a larger meter, and supervisory control and data acquisition capabilities. The project will also increase the size of the transmission main from the vault to the water tower and improve the distribution system. Once completed, this project will help prevent excessive water pressure loss and provide better water system safety and service for residents and visitors in this rural Dallas County community.

USDA is administering the funding through Rural Development's Water and Environmental Programs . These programs help rural communities fund clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal, and storm water drainage to rural households and businesses.
