Standing Up for the American People: Carter statement on President Trump’s State of the Union address

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rep. Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (R-GA) tonight sent the below statement following President Trump's first State of the Union Address to a joint session of Congress of his second term:

"Tonight, Democrats - including Jon Ossoff - refused to stand up for the American people.

"They stayed seated when President Trump pronounced that our southern border is closed, zero illegal immigrants are being released, and ICE is empowered to do its job.

"They stayed seated while Georgians celebrated that interest rates have come down, inflation is under control, and thelargest tax cuts in American history are in full effect. We are paying no taxes on tips, overtime, or social security, and the child tax credit has doubled - all policies opposed by Senator Jon Ossoff and the entirety of Georgia's democrat delegation.

"Eight wars have been ended through President Trump's peace through strength agenda. President Trump is doing what Biden never even attempted, and that is to bring peace to the world stage and negotiate life-saving deals across the globe. Not a peep from the liberal side of the Chamber.

"Democrats once again proved that they will stop at nothing to block President Trump's agenda, even at the expense of the prosperity and safety of the American people. We saw a clear-cut division tonight between the Republicans, under the leadership of President Trump, who are standing up for our country, and the Democrats who stay seated and refused to acknowledge the truth: The State of our Union is strong."
