The Investing in the Artist Grant Program supports emerging and established Santa Ana artists, as well as local arts organizations and cooperatives, with small but impactful grants that help advance their creative work. This round's theme "Stories That Unite US in Santa Ana" celebrates the city's rich history, cultural traditions, and diverse voices through collaborative art and creative expression. Highlights:
The City of Santa Ana WORK Center, through federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Youth funding, partners with community
organizations to help Santa Ana youth overcome barriers to employment, gain valuable work experience, and build pathways toward long-term careers.
As part of this effort, the City of Santa Ana awarded $200,000 in WIOA Youth funding to Working Wardrobes, a contracted WIOA Youth service provider, to provide employment, education, training, and career development services to eligible youth facing challenges to employment.
One of those youth is Alberto.
A TURNING POINT:
After working as a tree trimmer, Alberto experienced a serious workplace injury that resulted in a fractured tibia, surgery, and ongoing physical therapy. The injury forced him to reconsider his career path, but it did not stop him from planning for his future.
SERVICES PROVIDED:
Through the City of Santa Ana's WIOA Youth Program and services provided by Working Wardrobes, Alberto received individualized career coaching, assistance strengthening his résumé, career exploration, and an opportunity to participate in a WIOA-funded Work Experience (WEX).
His work experience at Working Wardrobes' front desk has allowed him to gain hands-on workplace experience while developing communication, customer service, and other essential professional skills.
LOOKING AHEAD:
At the same time, Alberto continues working toward his high school diploma and is pursuing his next career goal: becoming a certified arborist. His long-term vision is to eventually start his own business.
