To avoid the need to stick patients with needles continuously, those who are receiving chemotherapy for a period of time usually receive a chemo port. This port may be placed just under the skin on the right side of the chest, in the inner side of an upper arm, or below the ribcage. Having a chemo port placed may disrupt sleep. Clara Beaver, DNP, RN, AOCNS, ACNS, BC, manager of Clinical Education at Karmanos, provided some sleep tips and positions that are best for people with a port.
