Bettendorf Police Raising Money for Honor Flight through Popular Patch Program

Bettendorf Police Raising Money for Honor Flight through Popular Patch Program

May 27, 2026 - The Bettendorf Police Department is adding some red, white, and blue to their uniforms this summer.

For the second year in a row, BPD is partnering with the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities to raise awareness and money for this local chapter of the Honor Flight Network, which flies America's veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials dedicated to honoring their sacrifices.

To help them do that, BPD will be donning and selling a patriotic patch that features the American flag and a fireworks display. BPD will begin wearing the patch starting on June 14, which is Flag Day, through July 11, including the 4th of July and at all of the City of Bettendorf's 4th of July events.

"We are delighted to partner with BPD to help send veterans to Washington, D.C. to see the memorials erected in their honor," said Steve Garrington, Honor Flight of the Quad Cities. "This is especially relevant with 2026 being the 250th anniversary of the founding of our nation. It is only through the help of many great organizations like BPD, the hard work of hundreds of volunteers, and the support of thousands of citizens that this is possible. Honor Flight thanks you in the name of the 6,000 veterans who have taken this free trip."

Anyone can pre-order a patch for $5 along with apparel that showcases the patch from our online store. The online store, created by LogoPro in Bettendorf, is open until June 8. Patches are also available to purchase at BPD (1609 State Street) during regular business hours from June 15 through July 10. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities.

"This patch lets BPD show patriotism and support Honor Flight of the Quad Cities," said Doug Scott, Police Chief. "We're proud to wear these patches and raise awareness for this organization's work for veterans in our community."

"We also want to remind the community that we are always looking for guardians to assist our veterans on our flights," added Garrington. "In addition to an unforgettable trip to Washington, D.C., you'll spend the entire day with one veteran, listen to their stories, hear about their life, and make the experience even more special for them. Please visit our website to learn more and to fill out an application."

The Patriotic Patch is part of BPD's Patch Program, which includes a Heart Disease Awareness Patch worn in February, an Autism Awareness Patch worn in years past in April, a Child Abuse Prevention Patch worn this past April, a Mental Health Awareness Patch worn in years past in May & September, and a Breast Cancer Awareness Patch worn in years past in October.
