August Steel Shipments Up 1.8 Percent From Prior Month

Down 3.9 Percent YTD in 2024 from Same Period in 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of August 2024, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,292,562 net tons, a 3.8 percent decrease from the 7,580,767 net tons shipped in August 2023. Shipments were up 1.8 percent from the 7,160,731 net tons shipped in the previous month, July 2024. Shipments year-to-date in 2024 are 58,212,974 net tons, down 3.9% vs. 2023 shipments of 60,564,059 net tons for eight months.

A comparison of shipments year-to-date in 2024 to the first eight months of 2023 shows the following changes: cold rolled sheet, up 4 percent, corrosion resistant steel, down 2 percent and hot rolled steel, down 5 percent.
