Nakia C. Davis ‘01 Appointed Associate Dean for Academic Affairs

North Carolina Central University School of Law Dean Joseph K. Grant has appointed Professor Nakia Davis as associate dean for academic affairs

Davis, who joined the law school faculty in 2006, previously served as associate dean of clinical legal education and experiential learning. In her new role, she will oversee the law school's academic programs, collaborate with faculty to advance curricular innovation and support initiatives that enhance student success.

A NCCU School of Law alumna, Davis has spent nearly two decades advancing experiential learning and expanding opportunities for students to develop practical legal skills. She has worked with faculty to strengthen the curriculum and create innovative skills-training opportunities while mentoring and advising students throughout their legal education.

Before joining the faculty, Davis practiced family law with private firms in Durham before establishing her own family law practice.

Throughout her tenure at NCCU School of Law, Davis has held numerous leadership roles. She has served as co-director and facilitator of the NCCU School of Law Virtual Justice Project and has co-directed the Performance-Based Admission Program since 2010, a program that played a pivotal role in her own path to law school. She also served as co-chair of the law school's 2018-19 American Bar Association Site Visit Preparation Committee, working alongside Assistant Dean Adrienne Meddock to coordinate the ABA accreditation review.

Davis earned a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Juris Doctor from North Carolina Central University School of Law. She is a native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina.
