Victim and suspects identified from March 1, 2026 homicide investigation

On March 1, 2026, at approximately 3:02 a.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a call for service in the 3700 block of Astrozon Boulevard to investigate a disturbance. Initial details in the call stated that several people were involved in a verbal and physical disturbance and that some of the participants had firearms in their possession. While officers were on scene and in contact with people involved in the first disturbance, they heard gunshots coming from the parking lot. Other citizens who heard the gunshots had called 911 to report the second disturbance.

Officers contacted the occupants of one car that was leaving the parking lot and learned that one of the vehicle's occupants had suffered a gunshot wound. That person was transported to a local hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. Officers also contacted a second vehicle that was leaving the parking lot at the same time. The occupants of that vehicle were detained and later interviewed by detectives from the Violent Crimes/Homicide Unit. Two of those individuals, 32-year-old Alexious Barben-Wright and 21-year-old Alyssa Jaramillo, were later arrested and transported to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

On March 7, 2026, the victim, a juvenile, succumbed to injuries from the gunshot wound.

On March 9, 2026, the El Paso County Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy and identified the deceased victim as a 15-year-old female. While the Coroner's Office will determine the cause and manner of death, this is being investigated as a homicide. In accordance with Riley's Law, no further information regarding the victim will be released.
