Announcing Mooveapalooza!: A Donation & Mattress Recycling Event

The City of Madison Streets Division and the Dane County Department of Waste & Renewables is happy to announce the first ever Mooveapalooza!

This is a one-day event at Alliant Energy Center where anyone can donate usable items like furniture, clothes, toys, non-perishable food, tools, décor, and more for free.

And, special for this event, you will be able to recycle mattresses and box springs delivered to this location for a per item fee.

When and where is Mooveapalooza?

Mooveapalooza will be on Friday, August 14, 2026 from 8am to 2pm.

The event will be held at Alliant Energy Center.

On the Mooveapalooza website, there is a simple map to help guide you to the donation area.

You need to enter the Alliant Energy Center from Rimrock Rd and follow the road toward the New Holland Pavilions.

The donation and mattress recycling areas will be in the large parking lots to the south of the New Holland Pavilions, near the administrative buildings.

And on the day of the event, there will be signs to help.

What can you donate during Mooveapalooza?

We are partnering with St. Vincent de Paul and Habitat for Humanity to make this donation event possible.

At the St. Vincent de Paul area, you can donate items like clothes, books, toys, non-perishable food items, and other small household items. Be sure you box or bag up these items before you bring them.

Visit the St. Vincent de Paul website on what they accept and how you should package the items.

At the Habitat for Humanity area, you can donate furniture, tools, home décor, and other items. Make sure you clean any dust or debris off these items before you donate them.

Visit the Habitat for Humanity website for more details about what they accept.

Mattress Recycling Details for Mooveapalooza

7 Rivers Recycling from LaCrosse, WI will be providing mattress and box spring recycling for this one-day event.

Mattresses collected by the City of Madison during large item pickup, or delivered to the drop-off sites, are sent to the Dane County Landfill. Having mattress recycling at Mooveapalooza is a special opportunity.

To have your mattress (and/or box spring) recycled at Mooveapalooza, you need to bring the items to the event.

There is a $20 charge for each mattress and box spring delivered for recycling. The charge is the same regardless of the size of the mattress or box spring. This charge is paid directly to 7 Rivers Recycling, and they can accept payment in cash or credit card.

Your mattresses & box springs must be dry. And you need to remove the sheets, covers, and all other bedding.

7 Rivers Recycling will accept futon mattresses and memory foam mattresses.

In order for your mattresses to be accepted, they cannot be stained with bodily fluids. They cannot be moldy, or otherwise extremely soiled.

Mattresses cannot be infested with bugs or other animals.
