ACP Commends NJ Leadership in Implementing Energy Storage Program

Aug 22 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C., August 12, 2025- The American Clean Power Association (ACP) released the following statement from ACP Director of Eastern State Affairs Moira Cyphers following the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities' official launch of the state's energy storage program in conjunction with Governor Murphy's signature on complementary legislation.

With the signing of A5267and the official launch of the Garden State Energy Storage Program, the state will move forward with a competitive procurement process for grid-scale energy storage, while using existing funds and avoiding new costs to ratepayers.

"New Jersey is home to significant innovation and economic growth. From Cape May to Montague, we must ensure that all communities have access to safe, reliable and affordable power and benefit from this growth.

"We commend Governor Murphy and the NJBPU for taking the step to do just that, moving forward with the program to deploy at least 2 GW of energy storage in the state - enough to power 2 million homes during peak demand. Leading states for energy storage have drastically improved their ability to keep the lights on during adverse weather, meet rising demand and keep electricity prices in check.

"This milestone reflects the strong, ongoing partnership between the state legislature and the NJBPU, demonstrating what is possible when policymakers and regulators work together to build out a thoughtful program that is foundational to New Jersey's energy future."
