Morgan Park ‘Missing Middle’ Housing Project Proposed For City Land, Incentives

Four three-flat residential buildings would be constructed in Morgan Park through financial support and City land sales proposed to City Council today by Mayor Brandon Johnson.

Part of the Department and Planning and Development's Missing Middle infill housing initiative, the $7.8 million Far South Community Development Corp. project on the 10700 blocks of South Loomis Street and South Glenroy Avenue would receive up to $150,000 in City support for each of the 12 planned units. Funding would be provided through Housing and Economic Development Bond proceeds. Additionally, four City-owned lots would be sold for $1 each.

The Missing Middle program incentivizes the redevelopment of vacant City lots with market-rate buildings that have gone "missing" due to decades of disinvestment. Each completed structure will be sold to at least one owner-occupant as part of the initiative's community wealth-building goals.
