Artem Zdunov Zdunov ArtemHead of the Republic of Mordovia briefed the President on the region's socioeconomic development, but first focused on how Mordovia - like the rest of Russia - is contributing to the efforts to achieve the victory in the special military operation and supporting returning service members and their families. He also noted that Mordovia is responsible for a district in the Kherson Region, where it is helping to restore infrastructure.
The Head of the republic emphasised the need to stabilise the budget in order to meet key national economic targets and address residents' priorities. As a result, the region's debt burden has been reduced fourfold, while budget revenues have doubled.
Vladimir Putin noted the positive investment climate in Mordovia, highlighting growth in industrial output, a recovery in agriculture, and solid financial results.
According to Artem Zdunov, the region's gross regional product grew by 3 percent last year, with the industrial production index increasing at the same rate. Over the past five years, GRP has risen by 17 percent, while industrial output has grown by 34 percent. These results have been driven by the implementation of the socioeconomic development programme, including the establishment of a special economic zone. Business activity has increased by 10 percent, and industrial wages have also gone up.
Artem Zdunov reported the rise of a leading industrial producer in the region - RM Rail, a major manufacturer of railcars. The company has introduced several innovative products, including thermos, isothermal, and refrigerated railcars. Progress has also been achieved in the pharmaceutical sector, where more than 360 medicines are now produced, including essential reserve antibiotics and antiviral drugs. In agriculture, output of grain and legume crops increased over the past year, while businesses continue to operate actively and invest in key sectors. The Talina Group ranks among the top three producers of sausages and is also in the top ten for pork production.
The President noted an increase in the production of grain and legumes in the republic - 138 percent. Artem Zdunov emphasised that this growth is also driving an expansion in meat production.
The discussion also covered healthcare, including the construction of a cancer centre, as well as the inter-municipal waste treatment complex that has already been put into operation.
Artem Zdunov also outlined several challenges, including housing for young people, the need to upgrade public and social infrastructure, maintain roads, modernise water supply and drainage systems, and address dilapidated housing.
The Head of the republic emphasised that he has the determination, strength, and energy to continue his work and, if supported by the President, is ready to run for office this year as his five-year term comes to an end.
Vladimir Putin wished Artem Zdunov success, noting that, ultimately, the people will make their choice during the election campaign and voting process.
Vladimir Putin also pointed to a number of issues that require closer attention. In particular, he noted that the birth rate in Mordovia remains below the national average - an indicator that reflects a range of challenges, including social conditions and healthcare.
The President noted that, overall, progress has been made and expressed confidence that the region's remaining challenges can be effectively addressed by the team led by Artem Zdunov. At the same time, he emphasised the importance of engaging directly with residents, presenting the results achieved in recent years, consulting with voters on their top priorities, and incorporating these into the future programme.
