Mike DeWine’s State of the State Means Higher Costs, Fewer Jobs, and Gutted Health Care Arrow

DeWine's Ohio puts billionaires first and working Ohioans last

Today, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine will deliver his State of the State address, where he will try to spin his abysmal record of higher costs, rising unemployment, and less health care for Ohioans.

Thanks to Donald Trump and Mike DeWine, Ohio has rarely been worse off: working families are on track to lose over $1,300 per year due to Trump's Big Ugly Bill and failed economic policies, over 460,000 Ohioans are set to lose their health care, while thousands more face skyrocketing premiums. The average Ohio family will see a $645 (145%) increase in premium payments without enhanced tax credits.

By nearly every measure, Donald Trump and Mike DeWine have proven to be a staggering failure of leadership.

DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

"As Mike DeWine delivers his State of the State address today, the reality for families across Ohio is grim: Costs are climbing for essentials like gas and electricity, Ohioans are losing their jobs, and health care is becoming even more expensive and unattainable. As DeWine attempts to gaslight working families and paper over his failures, Democrats won't stop fighting to hold him accountable for making life more unaffordable for Ohioans."

Mike DeWine's real state of Ohio, by the numbers

Jobs:

  • Ohio has lost 22,592 jobs during Trump's first year in office.

Costs:

  • Ohio working families have already lost $659 in higher costs due to Trump's inflation.
  • Ohio families will lose an additional $1,060 each year from Trump and Republicans' Big Ugly Bill and Trump's reckless tariffs.

Health Care:

  • Ohio's 513,517 ACA marketplace enrollees are seeing their health care costs skyrocket because Donald Trump refused to extend enhanced ACA tax credits.
  • Because of Trump's Big Ugly Bill and Republicans' refusal to extend enhanced ACA tax credits, 460,000 Ohioans will lose their health care entirely.
  • The average Ohio family will see a $645 (145%) increase in premium payments without enhanced tax credits.

Food Assistance:

  • Trump's SNAP cuts will cause 717,000 Ohio families to lose some or all of their benefits.
