HEAT ALERT: Dangerous Temperatures Expected in the City of Poughkeepsie

The City of Poughkeepsie is expecting dangerously high heat tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday. Please take precautions, stay hydrated, and check on neighbors-especially seniors, children, and pets.

COOLING CENTER OPEN

To help beat the heat, the Community Room at 505 Main Street will be open as a Cooling Center:

9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (Thursday & Friday)

Free & open to the public

Hydrant Sprinklers

The City will activate hydrant sprinklers at select locations for safe outdoor cooling.

⚠️ Heat Safety Tips:

  • Stay indoors during peak heat hours (11 AM-4 PM)
  • Drink plenty of water-avoid alcohol & caffeine
  • Wear light clothing & use fans or A/C when possible
  • Never leave children or pets in vehicles
