01/17/2025
"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Entergy Arkansas is honoring the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a week-long celebration of community service.
Nearly 40 Entergy Arkansas volunteers started the celebration at the Arkansas Foodbank, where they held a "Feed the Funnel" food packing event in partnership with Primewell Health Services and The Pack Shack.
The group exceeded their original goal of packing 10,000 meals with a grand total of 15,504 meals. The tasty, nutritious and easy-to-prepare meals will be distributed by the foodbank to Arkansans in need throughout our service territory.
"It's inspiring to see volunteers from all different parts of the company come together to serve others in this way," said Brandi Hinkle, senior public affairs representative for Entergy Arkansas. "Our employees truly want to make a difference in the communities where they live and work."
This event is part of a series of volunteer efforts taking place across four states - Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas - in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is a National Day of Service.
Entergy Arkansas also partnered with the Arkansas Martin Luther King Jr. Commission and sponsored several events such as the Historic 9th Street Free Food Giveaway in Little Rock as part of the commission's "King Week" festivities.
King Week was designated by the commission as a time to reflect on the progress that has been made, acknowledge the work that remains and commit to building a community rooted in love, nonviolence and understanding.
Entergy Arkansas employees attended an interfaith breakfast at the Arkansas Governor's mansion to celebrate King Week. At the event, Customer Service Manager Jay Hartman presented the Arkansas MLK Commission with a $10,000 donation which will be used for activities throughout the year, including their Juneteenth celebration and back to school efforts.
Entergy Arkansas Customer Service Manager Omar Clemons serves as a commissioner for the Arkansas MLK Commission.
"The values and principles that Dr. King taught have impacted generations and can impact future generations to come in a profoundly positive way, as long as we continue in the work," says Clemons. "As an Entergy employee, I appreciate the fact that many of these values have been integrated in the structure of our organization- community volunteerism, The Power to Care and an overall commitment to community engagement and investment."
"Entergy has used its platform to not only recognize the life and legacy of Dr. King, but also to invest in Arkansas communities and organizations, fiscally and with manpower through volunteerism," he adds. "These efforts help ensure a better tomorrow for all people of different backgrounds, race, creeds, or colors."
Entergy Arkansas answers the call from Dr. King to help others, not just during King Week, but every day.
If you would like to join the celebration, Entergy Arkansas and the Arkansas MLK Commission invites you to attend the fireworks display on Monday, January 20 at 6:00 p.m. at the North Shore Riverfront Park in Little Rock.
