Can You Still Buy Salesforce Stock Today

Salesforce (CRM) shares have climbed 34.2% over the past three months, compared with 4.4% for the S&P 500. The biggest step came the day after the company released earnings in late August, when the stock jumped 23%. On the day of that release, Salesforce and Anthropic also announced an expanded partnership called Claudeforce. A buyer today pays $242.11, and that price appears to assume the quarter reported in August was not an exception. Management said that revenue for the period exceeded the top of its own forecast in constant currency. So how expensive has that run made Salesforce stock?

How Expensive Is Salesforce Against Its Own Past?

Not very. At the end of September, Salesforce traded at 4.3 times its revenue over the twelve months to July 2026. The stock ended a quarter at a lower multiple just twice out of the 40 quarter ends since fiscal 2017. Based on the October 28 close of $242.11, the shares traded at 4.5 times that same revenue.

A low price against sales is a bargain only when the company still generates as much profit on each dollar of sales as it used to. Salesforce's margins are now close to their highest since fiscal 2017. Its operating margin over the twelve months to July 2026 was 22%, coming in higher than at 37 of those 40 quarter ends.

Growth is the variable that has changed. Revenue growth over the twelve months to July 2026 was 11.2%, less than half the 24.6% recorded over the twelve months to July 2022. That leaves the stock looking fair rather than cheap: a more profitable business expanding at a slower pace.

What Salesforce Has To Deliver In Fiscal Q3

Management set revenue guidance for fiscal Q3 2027 at $11.42 billion to $11.5 billion. Analysts expect about $11.6 billion, sitting above the top of that range. The company's forecast does not include Contentful and Fin, a pair of acquisitions management expected to close in the weeks following the August 26 call. Fin staff have since joined Salesforce, and on October 20 it agreed to buy Braze for about $5.66 billion.

That guidance sets a higher bar than Salesforce's own pace in fiscal Q2 2027, when revenue grew 10.8% from a year earlier. That performance marked a slowdown from the 13.3% of fiscal Q1. Management guided growth of 11% to 12% for fiscal Q3, pointing to a pickup. That range is in constant currency, however, while the 10.8% figure is as reported.

Salesforce's contracted business is expanding faster than that guidance. Revenue under contract for the next twelve months reached $33.5 billion in fiscal Q2, up 14% in constant currency, and management expects about 14% again for fiscal Q3. Annual recurring revenue from Agentforce reached $1.5 billion, management said on the same call.

The contrast highlights how different AI commercialization paths can be: while enterprise software can scale autonomous agents straight into existing contracts, consumer-facing autonomous software often requires overcoming friction to get users to experience the product firsthand. Salesforce's Next Report Comes In December

Salesforce is expected to report in December 2026, delivering results for fiscal Q3 2027. Looking at the two trading days following its last six reports, the stock climbed four times and dropped twice. Those post-earnings moves ranged from a 24.5% gain after the August 2026 report to a 3.9% fall after the May 2025 report.

Buying before the report also exposes an investor to the stock's swings in a weak market. During the 2025 tariff shock, Salesforce stock fell 27.0% from its peak, compared with 19.0% for the S&P 500.

If fiscal Q3 revenue clears the analysts' estimate of $11.6 billion, and revenue under contract grows faster than management's 14% guide, waiting for December would have been too late. If revenue falls short of that estimate, a buyer today would have been too early.

How To Act On CRM?

Not necessarily on Salesforce alone, if your goal is long-term wealth. Wealth is built by owning the companies that keep outperforming, the leaders of their industries, wherever they are. Here are two companies from Salesforce's own industry that have beaten it. Over the five years to October 2026, PTC stock rose 54% and ACI Worldwide stock rose 78%, while Salesforce stock fell 17.3%.

Finding companies like these takes comparison across industries and sectors, and that is what the Trefis High Quality (HQ) Portfolio does. It holds 30 quality companies in equal weight and, since its inception in September 2020, has returned more than 105%, ahead of a benchmark that combines the S&P 500, S&P Mid-cap and Russell 2000. See how we find the leaders.
