The Virgil Getto Hall Art Gallery is now showing the artwork of former WNC student Jaime Sammons.
Western Nevada College's Fallon campus is currently showcasing a meaningful and reflective art exhibit by local artist Jaime Sammons, whose creative journey is deeply rooted in WNC's own classrooms.
After leaving the Navy and moving to Fallon in 2000, Sammons enrolled in a watercolor class at WNC, never imagining how transformative that single course would become. In Virgil Getto Hall, Room 312, she discovered not only a passion for still life and landscape art, but also a supportive community of instructors and fellow students that shaped her artistic voice and confidence.
Though her academic background lies outside the arts, Sammons credits WNC as a place where creativity, connection and personal growth flourish side by side. Her exhibit reflects years of learning inspired by the region's landscapes and the welcoming environment that allowed her skills - and well-being - to grow.
"I am still learning, grateful for the opportunity to hang paintings in a place that helped me develop the skills to make them," Sammons said.
The exhibit is open to the public Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and a special artist reception will be held Jan. 15 from 5:30-7 p.m. in Virgil Getto Hall. Community members are invited to attend, enjoy light refreshments, and celebrate the enduring impact of art and education at Western Nevada College.
