City of Waverly Celebrates Completion of Community Mural

posted in Community Development on July 1, 2026

The City of Waverly invites residents and community members to attend a public celebration for the unveiling of Waverly's new community mural on Thursday, July 16, at 11:00 a.m. at the Parks Building, 412 1st Avenue SE (behind Kwik Star East).

The mural was made possible through the Iowa Economic Development Authority's Iowans Create Community Mural Program, which awarded the project to the City of Waverly in late 2025. Waverly's application was selected by a panel of judges and paired with artist Ali Hval through the program. Community involvement played a key role in shaping the mural's design. The artwork celebrates the idea that wherever life takes you, a piece of Waverly can go with you.

The celebration will feature remarks from Waverly Mayor Kristin Happel, mural artist Ali Hval, and Debi Durham, Director of the Iowa Economic Development Authority.

Residents are invited to attend, view the completed mural, and celebrate this community-driven project, which showcases the creativity, pride, and character of Waverly.
