UPDATE: MISSING LAUMAKA WORK FURLOUGH INMATE RETURNED TO CUSTODY

HONOLULU - Laumaka work furlough inmate Steve R. Abraham was returned to custody at the Oʻahu Community Correctional Center at approximately 12:30 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2025, following his arrest in Kalihi.

Abraham, 24, was reported missing from a headcount at the Laumaka Work Furlough Center on June 23, 2025. He was not authorized to leave.

State sheriffs were notified.

Sheriff's deputies of the Special Operation Section Fugitive Task Force were conducting a joint operation with the Honolulu Police Department Crime Reduction Unit when they located and arrested Abraham in Kalihi at approximately 8:50 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2025.

Abraham is serving time for first-degree unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, second-degree assault and third-degree promoting a dangerous drug. He now faces a second-degree escape charge, a Class C felony that is punishable by up to five years in prison, if convicted.

The Laumaka Work Furlough Center is a minimum-security work furlough center for community custody inmates. Community custody is the lowest security custody classification.

Inmates assigned to Laumaka are either actively seeking employment or working in the community.
