Fourth Circuit to Continue Operations During Shutdown

October 15, 2025

The United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit will continue operations in the usual course notwithstanding the shutdown of the federal government caused by the failure to enact an annual appropriation act or a continuing resolution. This applies to all aspects of court operations, including docketing new cases, receipt of documents for filing, resolving motions, hearing cases on submission and by argument, and deciding cases. Cases currently calendared for oral argument will proceed as scheduled. Parties remain obligated to comply with the filing requirements of the Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure and this court's Local Rules.
