American Airlines statement on passing of Peter J. Dolara
FORT WORTH, Texas - American Airlines CEO Robert Isom issued the following statement on the passing of longtime American executive Peter J. Dolara:
"The entire American Airlines team mourns the passing of Peter Dolara," said Isom. "Peter was a legendary figure at American, in South Florida and throughout Latin America. He was integral to the growth of our Miami hub and Latin America network, and American would not be what it is today without his vision and leadership. Our thoughts are with Peter's family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time."
Dolara, who was affectionatelyknown to his team as "El Jefe," retired from American in 2012 after more than four decades of service. He joined the company in 1971, and early in his career, held numerous sales positions for the airline's Eastern Division, based in New York. He was named Vice President of Atlantic/Caribbean and New York Sales in 1984 and Senior Vice President in 1989.

He moved to Greater Miami in 1992, where he led the development of American's industry-leading presence throughout the Mexico, Caribbean and Latin America (MCLA) region. Even before moving to Miami, Dolara played a pivotal role in American's 1990 acquisition of Eastern Airlines and its Central and South America route network, which ensured American would be the preeminent U.S. carrier in the region for decades to come.

We lost a true visionary today, but his influence on our airline and the Miami community will endure forever. While I presently have the honor of leading our MIA team and operation, we carry Peter's legacy forward in everything we do."
