AJC Names Sharon Goldman as Atlanta Regional Director

American Jewish Committee (AJC), the global advocacy organization for the Jewish people, has named Dr. Sharon Goldman, a leader in Jewish communal affairs, education, and philanthropy, as Director of its Atlanta regional office.

Goldman comes to AJC from Kivunim, a Jerusalem-based international Jewish gap-year program, where she served as Director.

Prior to Kivunim, Goldman was Vice President of Global Resource Development at Bar-Ilan University, where she helped lead a 63% increase in fundraising commitments over four years, and spent 12 years at AIPAC in senior political and regional leadership roles, overseeing fundraising, advocacy, leadership development, and community engagement. She was also Vice President and Director of the Israel-America Studies Program at Shalem College in Jerusalem, where she taught political science.

"Amid rising antisemitism and antizionism, effective Jewish advocacy has never been more essential," Goldman said. "At the same time, this community is also about experiencing Jewish joy. AJC has been at the forefront of both. I'm excited to be here."

Goldman succeeds Dov Wilker, who is now AJC Vice President, Advocacy and Innovation, after serving as Atlanta Regional Director since 2011.

"We are thrilled to have someone with Sharon's deep well of experience join us," said AJC Atlanta President Mindy Selig. "The Atlanta area is home to a Jewish community that is dynamic, diverse, and engaged. Sharon's passion for the Jewish community and her extraordinary expertise in communal engagement will make her an immediate asset."

In her role, Goldman will also oversee AJC's advocacy efforts in the southeastern U.S., including in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Goldman received a B.A. in theatre from Barnard College, where she graduated summa cum laude, and a master's degree and PhD in political science from Yale University. She has also had articles and columns published about antizionism and antisemitism.

American Jewish Committee (AJC) believes in ensuring the well-being of the Jewish people and defending democratic values for all. As the Southeast office of AJC, AJC Atlanta connects our community to AJC's global advocacy work. Our local access to diplomats, elected officials, and ethnic and religious leaders advances AJC's broader global priorities: combating antisemitism, promoting Israel's place in the world, and promoting pluralism and democratic values.
