WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Sylvia Garcia (D-TX-29) released the following statement after voting no on the Republican Continuing Resolution:

"Tonight, I voted no on a continuing resolution that betrays working families and does nothing to lower the cost of health care for millions of people.

"Once again, House Republicans are putting Donald Trump and his billionaire buddies ahead of the American people. They have turned Congress into a circus and allowed Trump to pull the strings while families in Texas and across the country struggle to make ends meet.

"This deal keeps the government open but leaves working people behind. It fails to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits that keep health care affordable for millions of Americans, including 111,000 people in my district, Texas's 29th. Families earning modest wages will pay thousands more simply because Republicans refuse to act.

"In my district, the most uninsured district in the nation, every delay and every cut means more families lose coverage, more seniors skip medicine, and more children go without care. This should not happen anywhere in America.

"I came to Congress to fight for Texas families, not the wealthy and well-connected. I will never stop fighting to extend the ACA tax credits, protect Medicare and Medicaid, and lower costs for every hardworking family in Houston and across the country."
