James Rose, 53, is charged with THIRD OFFENSE DUI after he struck two unoccupied marked patrol vehicles, both with emergency blue lights activated, that were parked on the side of Neelys Bend Road near Randy Road during an unrelated investigation Tuesday night.
Officers Michael Allen and Jordan Schaffer responded at 10 p.m. to a report of a person in the roadway. Rose was driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck eastbound on Neelys Bend Road when he suddenly swerved towards the unoccupied patrol SUVs, almost striking Officer Allen before impacting both Allen's and Shaffer's vehicles. The officers were not injured.
Rose drove off. The truck was located wrecked and abandoned on Neelys Bend Road and Evergreen Trail. Officers spotted him fleeing on foot into a tree line where he was apprehended by Canine Officer Tommy Smith and his partner Talon. Rose was visibly intoxicated with slurred speech, unsteady on his feet, and had an odor of alcohol. He admitted that he had consumed alcohol.
In addition to DUI (3rd offense), Rose is charged with two counts of aggravated assault against a police officer, evading arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving on a revoked license. He remains jailed on $48,000 bond.
