Findings of Whistleblower Retaliation by District of Columbia Inspector General Management Official Over Medicaid Fraud Control Unit

The Special Investigations Branch (SIB) of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of Inspector General (OIG), conducted an investigation in response to allegations brought forth by a complainant who worked at the District of Columbia Office of Inspector General in the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (DC MFCU). The complainant alleged in an OIG Hotline submission that DC MFCU was not in compliance with Federal regulations and committed other violations. Investigators found that the complainant made protected disclosures to responsible management officials and HHS OIG prior to being terminated and that the termination was retaliatory. The OIG investigative report was provided to the Department and included recommendations for appropriate action.
