Appointments

Stephanie Raible, associate professor in the Neil Book School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Delaware's Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, has been appointed chair of the Board of Directors for the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE), the leading professional organization dedicated to advancing entrepreneurship education through teaching, scholarship and practice. As board chair, Raible will help guide USASBE's strategic direction and support initiatives that strengthen entrepreneurship education, research and engagement across higher education. Her appointment reflects a longstanding record of leadership within the organization and her contributions to advancing inclusive, experiential and community-engaged entrepreneurship education.

Honors

UD alumna Ashley Miller was recently named 2026 Delaware History Teacher of the Year by the prestigious Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. Miller, who graduated from UD in 2002, teaches social studies at the Conrad Schools of Science in Wilmington. She is also a mentor teacher for UD students in the history education program, a Delaware Teachers Institute Fellow and a participant in Library of Congress workshops offered through DTI at UD. The Gilder Lehrman Institute is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of American history through educational programs and resources. Each year it recognizes one teacher from each state for their dedication, creativity and effective use of primary sources in making history engaging, meaningful and relevant in their classrooms. Nominees are recommended by students, colleagues, or school leaders and selected by state committees of historians and educators.

Presentations

Alumna Nilima Nigam was an invited speaker at the prestigious 2026 International Congress of Mathematicians meeting in Philadelphia in late July. Nigam, who received her doctorate in applied mathematics from UD in 1999, is a professor and numerical analyst at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada. Her presentation examined the process of eigenvalue approximation - a central challenge in numerical analysis and scientific computing - from the perspective of computational spectral geometry. The International Congress of Mathematicians brings together the world's top mathematicians every four years. The Fields Medal, the discipline's top award which has been called the Nobel Prize for mathematics, is awarded during the event.

Publications

Heinz-Uwe Haus, professor emeritus, Department of Theatre and Dance, published in the Munich cultural magazine Revista de Cultura Alternante, Nr. 3, July, 2026 a review of a new book of poems by the Orthodox Romanian poet-priest Marcel Miron, Seme Contemporare/Gegenwärtige Zeichen, translated by Mircea M. Pop and Joachim Schwietzke, Timpul Publisher, Iasi, 2024 (in Romanian and German). In Haus' view "Contemporary Signs identifies the poet as a 'conqueror,' with his poetry about life, in its various aspects, with nodal points, which are faith, holy books/church, love, poetry". The reviewer summarizes the vision of Miron as "penduling between two worlds," which reminds the reader of the terrestrial world, in which the poet lives, and the celestial one, to which he aspires.
