Game Changing Partnership: Marion County to Host Game Changing Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Rotary Sportsplex

Marion County Parks & Recreation is thrilled to announce the ribbon cutting for the Rotary Sportsplex Synthetic Turf Project on Wednesday, April 1, at 7 p.m.

This game-changing initiative, which broke ground in February, officially puts Marion County on the map. The Rotary Sportsplex is now the first public park in the county to feature high-performance synthetic turf on two primary soccer fields. This transformation was fueled by generous sponsorship from AdventHealth Ocala, alongside the Marion County Board of County Commissioners and the Tourism Development Council.

"This project was made possible by robust community partnerships and a collective belief in the value of public parks," said Parks & Recreation Director Jim Couillard. "Together, we are transforming the future of youth sports and wellness in Marion County for generations to come!"

We didn't just stop at the grass. To provide a premier experience for athletes and fans alike, the facility now features: a brand-new pavilion and paved parking, spectator-friendly stadium bleachers with integrated shade structures, state-of-the-art LED field lighting.

"At AdventHealth, our commitment to whole-person care extends beyond our hospital walls and into the communities we are privileged to serve," said Erika Skula, president /CEO of AdventHealth Ocala. "Our partnership with Marion County reflects a shared vision for creating spaces that bring families together, encourage youth development through sports and promote lifelong wellness. As the home of Marion County's only dedicated Children's Emergency Room, AdventHealth Ocala remains deeply committed to supporting the health and well-being of children both on and off the field. We're grateful to the Board of County Commissioners for recognizing the positive impact of this collaboration."

This project isn't just a facelift-it's a leap forward. By switching to synthetic turf, we are expanding field availability and boosting player safety, all while slashing operating costs and reducing our environmental footprint.
