Indigenous Peoples' Day Schedule of Services for the City of Alexandria

All City of Alexandria government offices will be closed on Monday, October 12, to observe Indigenous Peoples' Day.

Other schedule changes and closures are listed below.

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS)

Monday, October 12: No school for students. Professional Learning Day for staff.

Alexandria Transit Company (DASH)

Monday, October 12: DASH bus service will operate on a Saturday-Sunday schedule. Lines 102, 103, and 104 will not operate

The King Street Trolley operates from King Street Metro to City Hall/Market Square with service every 15 minutes, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day, including holidays.

Please note that DASH Administrative Offices will be closed in observance of the holiday.

Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA)

Monday, October 12: AWLA will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Adoption hours begin at noon (12 p.m.).

Courts

Monday, October 12: The General District Court, Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, Court Service Unit, Circuit Court, and the Clerk of Circuit Court will be closed.

Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)

Monday, October 12: Closed.

Health Facilities

Monday, October 12: Alexandria Health Department, Flora Krause Casey Health Center, and the Teen Wellness Center clinics will be closed.

Historic Alexandria

Monday, October 12: Gadsby's Tavern Museum and the Stabler-Leadbeater Apothecary Museum will be open from 1 to 5 p.m.

All other Alexandria Historic Museums will be closed.

Impound Lot

Monday, October 12: Closed.

The City's impound lot is closed on all weekends and observed City holidays. Fees continue to accrue on Saturdays and Sundays, but not on holidays.

Libraries

Monday, October 12: All Alexandria Libraries will be closed.

Parking

Monday, October 12: The Alexandria Police Department will suspend parking restriction enforcement at meters and residential permit parking districts. This applies only to legal parking spaces.

Temporary no-parking signs will still be enforced.

Recreation and Nature Centers

Monday, October 12: Charles Houston Recreation Center, Chinquapin Recreation Center, & Patrick Henry Recreation Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All other City of Alexandria recreation facilities and nature centers will be closed.

Resource Recovery

Week of October 12: Trash, recycling, curbside food waste, and yard waste collection will be delayed one day.

  • Monday collection will be on Tuesday, October 13.
  • Tuesday collection will be on Wednesday, October 14.
  • Wednesday collection will be on Thursday, October 15. 
  • Thursday collection will be on Friday, October 16.
  • Friday collection (food waste only) will be on Saturday, October 17.

The Household Hazardous Waste Electronic Collection Drop-off Center will be closed on Monday, October 12.

Torpedo Factory Art Center

Monday, October 12: The Torpedo Factory is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Torpedo Factory occasionally closes at 5 p.m. Visit torpedofactory.org/visit to see the schedule.
