City Seeks Participants for Art Project Observing National Day of Racial Healing
On January 21, communities across the country will participate in the ninth-annual National Day of Racial Healing. It's a special day to acknowledge the values we share, build common ground and inspire collective action that furthers healing from the effects of racism.

For its observance of the National Day of Racial Healing, the City of Olympia invites community members to participate in an important and thoughtful community-art project, exploring the following question: What would racial healing look like to you?

This interactive-art activity asks community members to imagine a world where everyone feels safe, respected and included, no matter what they look like or where they come from. What would that world look like to you? How would people treat each other, and what could we do to make that happen in our schools, neighborhoods or families?

The submission can be an image like a drawing or painting or in written form like a poem. To participate, put your submission on a 3.5" x 5" card. Once you have done that, it can be shared in one of two ways:
  1. Scan and email it to [email protected].
  2. Drop it off at Olympia City Hall (601 4th Ave E) - ATTN: Keli Drake.
Your submission will be considered for display in the window at Olympia City Hall in recognition of the National Day of Racial Healing. The deadline for your contribution to be included ahead of the National Day of Racial Healing is noon on January 17. However, additional contributions will be added to the display up until January 31.

The National Day of Racial Healing is also a good opportunity to open up spaces for conversation, either one-on-one or with small groups in your neighborhoods, community spaces and organizations. A conversation guide and other resources can be found at www.DayofRacialHealing.org.
