BMI Remember Frankie Beverly of Maze

BMI was saddened to learn of the passing of soul and funk legend, Frankie Beverly, who died on September 10 at the age of 77. Philadelphia-born Beverly founded the band Maze in 1970, perfecting an infectious blend of R&B, soul and funk that manifested in hit songs like "Happy Feelings," "While I'm Alone," "Golden Time of Day," "Southern Girl," "The Look in Your Eyes," "Joy and Pain," "Can't Get Over You" and "Before I Let Go," among many others. The band released nine Gold album from 1977 and 1993. Maze's music was also hugely influential and frequently sampled in early Hip-Hop.

At the time of his passing, Frankie Beverly was still performing with Maze, and wrapped up a farewell tour in Philadelphia this past July. He will be missed by his friends, fans and family at BMI.
