The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department hosts Halloween-inspired events throughout the month of October, beginning with a screening of the horror film, "A Quiet Place," on Friday, October 9.
The following are highlights of the upcoming month's offerings:
Scare in the Park: Scary Movie Night: "A Quiet Place"
Friday, October 9 | 6:45-8:45 pm | Barber Park, 1500 Barber Park Dr.
Trade the kids' movie night for a spooky night out. Join Parks and Recreation for a fun, fright-filled evening featuring "A Quiet Place (rated R)," good company, and plenty of grown-up fun under the stars.
Halloween Extravaganza
Saturday, October 17 | 7-9:30 pm | Hester Park, 3615 Deutzia St.
Get spooky this Halloween at Hester Park with spooky trails, hayride, bonfires, yard games, music, and crafts during Halloween Extravaganza. Scary stories starts at 7:30 pm for the young and the young at heart. Make s'mores and warm up around the fire pit.
Meet and Treat
Sunday, October 18 | 4-6 pm | Cairn's Course, Downtown Greenway, Between Guilford Avenue and West Friendly Avenue
When trick-or-treating includes a meet-and-greet, you get Meet and Treat! Come out and meet your favorite local mascots, collect treats, and enjoy a fun-filled adventure along the Downtown Greenway. Costumes are encouraged.
Ghoulash!
Saturday, October 24 | 2:30-5:30 pm | Center City, 200 N. Elm St. and LeBauer Parks, 208 N. Davie St.
Ghoulash! is an annual festival featuring fall and Halloween-themed activities led by the Greensboro Youth Council in partnership with Greensboro Downtown Parks, Inc. This is a family-friendly event, with most activities geared toward children 12 and under. There will be arts and crafts, game booths, a craft and vendor market, costume contest, and bounce houses.
Howl-O-Ween
Sunday, October 25 | 1-4 pm | Country Park, 3905 Nathanael Greene Dr.
Participants and their dogs can join Greensboro Parks and Recreation and Guilford County Animal Resources staff for this extra-special trick-or-treat event that features treats for both dogs and humans! The fun begins at shelter 4 at Country Park. Parking is available in the Jaycee Park parking lot. No registration is required.
Trunk or Treat
Friday, October 30 | 6:30-8:30 pm | Craft Rec Center, 3911 Yanceyville St.
Children are encouraged to dress up for Halloween, play games, win prizes, and grab some treats during this family-friendly event.
The Great Pumpkin Parking Lot
Saturday, October 31 | 5:30-7:30 pm | Lindley Recreation Center, 2907 Springwood Dr.
Join Greensboro Parks and Recreation for this fun and free event. Wear your Halloween costume and do some trick-or-treating at decorated vehicles in the Lindley parking lot. Come have a fa-boo-lous time playing games and mingling with some special guests.
Pumpkin Smash
Wednesday, November 7 | 10 am to 12 noon | Lake Brandt, 5945 Lake Brandt Rd.
Use a homemade pumpkin slingshot or sledgehammers to sling, fly, or smash your old, leftover pumpkins. There will be varied sizes of sledgehammers for varied-sized hands. No registration is required.
