Focusing on Youth Mentoring, Trauma, and Substance Use Disorder
Orange County, FL - The Orange County Drug-Free Coalition (DFC) announced today its 20th annual Youth Prevention Conference set for Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025, at the Special Events Center at Valencia College's West Campus. This year's theme "Prevention Starts with Us" will explore how the community can work together to prevent Orange County youth from falling victim to substance use disorders.
Public Policy consultant Sue Thau, of the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America, will deliver the keynote speech, focusing on the importance of prevention. Rachel C. Allen, executive director of the Peace and Justice Institute, and Orange County District 6 Commissioner Mike Scott will also speak, addressing how mentoring, toxic stress and trauma shape youth decision making.
Attendees can participate in a panel discussion with parents, school staff and community leaders on the impacts of youth substance use disorders. The conference will also feature a presentation on prevention strategies that resonate with Generation Z.
