Honda associates celebrated the long legacy of transmission production in Tallapoosa, Georgia today, as the Honda Transmission Manufacturing Plant in Georgia (TMP-G) marked its 20th anniversary. The plant is the exclusive source of the 10-speed automatic transmission in Honda and Acura vehicles built in the U.S.

Since TMP-G began production of 5-speed transmissions on May 12, 2006, Honda associates in Georgia have built more than five million transmissions. Honda has more than doubled its workforce in Georgia since 2006, growing to nearly 500 associates, and with a total investment of more than $485 million the plant has the annual capacity to build 375,000 transmissions.

TMP-G, formerly called Honda Precision Parts of Georgia (HPPG), also produced 6-speed automatic transmissions before adding a second assembly line in 2017, and taking on a new responsibility as the first Honda plant in the world to produce the advanced 10-speed automatic transmission (10AT). Five years ago, the facility revamped its original production line to increase production of the 10AT, which is featured in the Honda Pilot, Passport and Odyssey and the Acura MDX.

"This anniversary is a celebration of the great legacy of Honda quality and innovation here in Georgia," said Arturo Valdes, TMP-G Plant Lead. "Our facility has evolved greatly over the last 20 years and will play an important role in the future supporting our North American production. I am very grateful to our Honda team in Georgia, as none of this growth would have been possible without the commitment and ability of our associates."

As transmission production has grown over the past 20 years, so has Honda's commitment to the local community. Last year, Honda awarded more than $950,000 in funding to non-profit community-based organizations in Georgia. TMP-G associates also volunteered over 3,200 hours at numerous events across the region, embodying the Honda philosophy of contributing positively where its associates live and work.
