Sri Lankan Defence Secretary Holds Bilateral Discussions with Senior Russian Defence Official in Moscow

The Sri Lankan Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), who is currently on an official visit to the Russian Federation, met with Mr. Aleksander Nikolayevich Venediktov, Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation and State Advisor of the Russian Federation, in Moscow today (27 May).

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 1st International Forum on Security and the Annual Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues, being held in Moscow from 26 to 29 May.

During the cordial discussions, both officials exchanged views on a range of current bilateral matters of mutual interest, with particular focus on cooperation between the armed forces of Sri Lanka and the Russian Federation. Discussions centred on further strengthening longstanding defence relations and exploring new avenues for collaboration in the fields of defence, security and military-technical cooperation.

The Defence Secretary and Mr. Venediktov also deliberated on opportunities for Sri Lanka to benefit from technologically advanced military cooperation and related initiatives aimed at enhancing mutual engagement between the two countries.
