Supporting State Efforts to Address Chronic Absenteeism Through AIR’s Attendance Lab

Addressing high rates of chronic absenteeism and increasing opportunities for student engagement are leading priorities among educators and policymakers in states, schools, and districts across the U.S.

Bringing together education policy and technical assistance experts, state and local educators, school district representatives, and others, AIR's Attendance Lab provides customized support and resources to help schools improve student engagement and boost attendance.

Partnering with AIR's Attendance Lab means that states and school districts will have access to technical assistance support from AIR experts who have expertise across a variety of content areas and research methods. Our experts are already helping schools to:

We can evaluate the challenge, bring evidence to bear on potential solutions, and work with states to implement policy change and adapt to complex circumstances.

As AIR's Attendance Lab expands to reach more schools across the country, we will continue helping educators to conduct root cause analyses, develop policy and systems-level implications, and initiate a process to support selection, implementation, and monitoring of student engagement interventions.

Join us for AIR's Insights for Student Success and Engagement Summer Training Institute

Date: July 14-17, 2026 or August 4-6, 2026

We invite you to gather with experts and district and secondary school teams from around the country for the Insights for Student Success and Engagement (Insights) 3-day Summer Training Institute.

The Institute is an immersive professional learning experience that equips leaders and staff with practical tools and strategies to build a student-centered, data-driven system of support. This training will provide evidence-based strategies to improve attendance, engagement, and academic outcomes for high school students.

Cost: $3,400, including registration, breakfast, and lunch. Those who register by May 15, 2026 will also have hotel costs covered (a $670 value).
