The 13th session of the Committee on World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Standards has concluded at the Organization's headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
At the opening of the session, the delegation of the Russian Federation delivered a statement on behalf of the Group of Central Asian, Caucasus and Eastern European Countries. It highlighted the Committee's significant contribution to the development, enhancement, and revision of WIPO international standards, which form the foundation for the work of the entire Organization, including the international registration systems. This, in turn, facilitates the effective and coordinated work of national and regional intellectual property (IP) Offices with IP-related information and documents.
During the session, Member States approved new versions of WIPO standards aimed at optimizing and unifying global IP processes. These revisions concern the exchange of priority documents (WIPO Standard ST.92), the presentation of nucleotide and amino acid sequence listings using eXtensible Markup Language (XML) (ST.26), the authority file of patent documents published by an IP Office (ST.37), and bibliographic data relating to marks (ST.60).
The delegation of the Russian Federation presented reports and work plans for 2025-2026 of two Task Forces led by the country - on blockchain and on three-dimensional (3D) models and images. The Committee approved the submitted documents and endorsed the proposed plans for further work.
Furthermore, the delegation presented the results of the 2025 Study on the use, publication, and scope of protection of 3D models and images included in application materials, along with a draft Annex to the WIPO Standard ST.91 concerning 3D model search. The 3D Task Force, led by the Russian Federation, will continue refining this Annex for subsequent submission to the Committee for approval.
During the session, Rospatent also delivered a presentation on its implementation of Standards ST.26, ST.37, and ST.96, and provided information on progress in adopting WIPO's ICT recommendations.
On the sidelines of the Committee, Russian experts actively participated in meetings of the task forces focused on digital transformation, sequence listings, and IP data exchange, thereby strengthening international cooperation to build a more coherent and effective global IP ecosystem.
