Areas impacted by the January 2025 fires are currently under an evacuation warning in anticipation of heavy rain across Southern California.
The National Weather Service has deemed this an unusually strong storm system. Rains began Thursday, November 13, and are anticipated through the morning of Sunday, November 16. The period of most concern is tonight (Friday) through tomorrow (Saturday) night, when heavy rain and potentially-severe thunderstorms will bring a moderate-to-high risk of significant flash flooding, debris flows, damaging winds, and increased wave height along shorelines and in channels -- particularly in areas affected by recent wildfires. Parts of the city may receive 2-5 inches of rain, with 4-8 inches possible in mountainous and hilly areas. After this major storm passes, two separate, smaller storms are expected next week.
All residents who live in flood-prone areas or near a recent burn scar are encouraged to take all storm-preparedness steps necessary to protect themselves from injury and their property from damage. Impacts in the city could include power outages, debris flows, and flooding -- not only in creeks and streams, but also on roads and freeways.
The City of Los Angeles has issued an EVACUATION WARNING through 11AM on Sunday, November 16 for multiple zones in the Palisades, Hurst, and Sunset Fire areas. These zones, listed below, can be viewed on the Genasys Protect map (also linked at the top of this page).
Palisades Fire area: LFD-1081, 1083, 1085, 1087, 1089, 1091, 1092, 1093, 1095, 1096, 1097, and 0891 (Mandeville Canyon)
Hurst Fire area: LFD-0001-B
Sunset Fire area: LFD-0835
High-risk homes will be visited by Los Angeles Police Department personnel with additional information regarding targeted EVACUATION ORDERS.
Your Los Angeles Fire Department, in coordination with the California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES), is increasing staffing and prepositioning resources across the city to respond quickly to emergencies. Augmented LAFD resources include Heavy Equipment, Hand Crews, Swiftwater Teams, USAR, Brush Patrols, and Air Operations. Dispatch centers will have extra staffing to manage calls and coordinate resources. As conditions evolve, city resources and personnel may be deployed or adjusted.
