Rep. Frankel Statement on Trump Administration Withdrawing U.S. from the World Health Organization

Washington, DC - Today, Rep. Lois Frankel (FL-22), Ranking Member of the National Security, Department of State, and Related Programs (NSRP) Appropriations Subcommittee, released the following statement after President Trump signed an executive order intending to withdraw the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO).

"Stepping away from the World Health Organization (WHO) is deeply concerning and would be a significant step backward in global health collaboration," said Rep. Frankel. "At a time when the world continues to face complex health challenges-from pandemics to the growing burden of chronic diseases-our engagement in multilateral organizations like the WHO is more crucial than ever.

Global health security is not confined by borders; the health of one nation is tied to the health of all. The WHO has been instrumental in coordinating international efforts to combat deadly diseases, deliver vaccines to vulnerable populations, and strengthen health systems in underserved regions," continued Rep. Frankel.

"We must not lose sight of our shared responsibility to protect lives, advance medical progress, and uphold the values of compassion and cooperation that should define us as a nation. By stepping away, the U.S. risks weakening the global response to future health emergencies and diminishing its influence in shaping international health policy.

As we negotiate our funding for 2025 and 2026, I remain committed to securing funding for vital global health initiatives."
