SGMC Health's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) was recently recognized as the Region 8 EMS Service of the Year at the Georgia EMS regional awards banquet.

The award is presented to an EMS team that demonstrates excellence in patient care, professionalism, and service to its community at the local, regional, and state levels.

The recognition reflects the dedication and high standards upheld by the SGMC Health EMS team, who consistently provide care across a service area spanning more than 1,000 square miles-the largest geographical coverage in the state of Georgia. Through significant investment in education and training alongside other first responder agencies, the team continues to strengthen its ability to deliver responsive, high-quality care across South Georgia.

In recent years, SGMC Health EMS has advanced several key initiatives that further elevate emergency care in the region. These include the implementation of a prehospital blood program, enabling life-saving transfusions to begin before patients reach the hospital, enhancements to pediatric transport safety designed to improve outcomes for young patients, and strategic growth into Brooks County, expanding access to timely emergency services for more communities.

"This award reflects the many hours of hard work and dedication our EMS team gives to the community every day," said Emily Brown, Director of EMS and Trauma. "I am incredibly proud of their commitment, no matter the time, day, or conditions. Their sacrifices, high standards, and the way they represent both our service and community continue to make an impact not only locally, but across the state."

In addition to the service-wide honor, individual team members were also recognized for their contributions to excellence.

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) Scott Roberts was named Region 8 Medic of the Year, recognizing his dedication to patient care and his passion for serving the community.

Additionally, Brown was recognized as Service Director of the Year, honoring her leadership and the impact she has had in strengthening EMS services and supporting team members across the organization.

SGMC Health EMS continues to serve the region with a focus on high-quality care, teamwork, and community impact, setting a standard for emergency care throughout South Georgia.
