Basin Electric honors Antelope Valley Station Unit 2 with Reliability Award

Basin Electric leaders present the Untarnished Turbine Award to Antelope Valley Station employees
in recognition of their outstanding performance and commitment to reliability.

Basin Electric Power Cooperative (Basin Electric) recognized Antelope Valley Station Unit 2 as the cooperative's most reliably operated coal generation facility for 2025. Recently renamed the "Untarnished Turbine Award", this award recognizes exceptional reliability performance over the past year, reflecting commitment to safe operations, strong maintenance practices, and teamwork.

"I am so proud of Cory Bryngelson and the team at Antelope Valley Station, and I hope they are proud of themselves," Gavin McCollam, senior vice president and chief operating officer at Basin Electric, said. "We continuously talk about the importance of reliability, and we hope that employees see this award as a daily reminder that their efforts to keep the plant running are valued and appreciated. Todd Brickhouse, Basin Electric's CEO and general manager, named the "Untarnished Turbine Award" very aptly, and the team at Antelope Valley Station is very deserving."

Twelve employees from Antelope Valley Station received the award onstage at Basin Electric's 65th Annual Meeting of the Membership on August 12 in Bismarck, North Dakota.

"This award represents more than reliability," Cory Bryngelson, plant manager at Antelope Valley Station and Leland Olds Station, said. "It reflects the hard work, ownership, and teamwork demonstrated by every employee at our plant. I couldn't be prouder of what this team has accomplished. Achieving the highest reliability is a direct result of the dedication, professionalism, and commitment our people bring to work every day."

The trophy, handcrafted by workers in the weld shop at Dakota Gasification Company, will travel between the most reliable coal facilities each year. However, the team at Antelope Valley Station is doing everything possible to delay its next trip.

"We would like to remind our fellow plant managers not to get too attached to the idea of hosting it anytime soon," Bryngelson said. "The Antelope Valley Station employees plan on keeping it right where it belongs."

Introduced in 2023, the award highlights the importance of reliable generation across Basin Electric. Previous recipients include:

  • 2023: Leland Olds Station Unit 1
  • 2024: Leland Olds Station Unit 1
